Real Men Wear Pink!

Real Men Wear Pink!
The Suite Level of the Golden One Center Hosted the “Real Men Wear Pink” Kick-Off.

Earlier this evening at the Golden One Center, I was afforded the opportunity to share my Cancer story with a room full of vivacious, philanthropic, and maybe slightly competitive male volunteers who have all raised their hands to be “Real Men Wear Pink” Ambassadors for the upcoming Sacramento Making Strides Against Breast Cancer annual 5k walk.

So what exactly does this mean? Each of these men has committed to an ambitious fundraising goal knowing that each of the dollars raised goes directly back into the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) free programs, services, research, and general mission to free the world from Cancer. In return, they will receive fundraising support, added incentives, and potential bragging rights (*this is huge*). Last year, Sacramento’s team of “Real Men” ranked nationally in total fundraising and this year they have their eyes set on the #1 spot! Based on the passion and enthusiasm I witnessed in the room tonight, I have no doubts the team will meet and exceed their goals. It was a pleasure to meet and personally thank these gentleman that have made it a priority to put their time and resources into supporting individuals facing Breast Cancer and working towards a world where fewer people have to face it.

Tonight was the kick-off event, but there is still plenty of time to join the “Real Men” team. Are any of my male Sacramento friends up for the challenge? If so, shoot me a note and I will connect you to the right people!

While I do not qualify to join the “Real Men” team for obvious reasons, I will also be doing my part to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Sacramento event. The ACS is one of the several non-profit organizations I volunteer for and in my opinion is a fabulous first, one-stop shop for Cancer information and services. There are an abundance of niche Cancer organizations that can be fabulously helpful, but also very confusing to navigate when first dealing with a diagnosis. For me, the ACS provided a trustworthy voice with a great breadth of knowledge and referral services while I was still gathering my bearings to my (at the time) new diagnosis. For the support and reassurance it offered me, it’s important to me to continue to support the organization as I am able.

If you would be willing to join me for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Sacramento event, it would mean the world to me! You can walk with me (in person or in spirit), donate on my behalf, or fundraise with me. Cancer takes a community to conquer and I’d like to invite each of you to be part of mine!
